Gen Webster - Unprepared

1 min read

Sheila was out of her comfort zone; her motto was

Be PREPARED!

She’d been a scout in her younger years, and liked the structure of the meetings. She knew exactly what to expect.

Sheila had the same salad for lunch every day, followed by a piece of fruit – she accepted that it wasn’t the same piece of fruit every day. She could live with that!

One time she had been in hospital and apart from the ‘procedure’ she quite like the rhythm of hospital routines. She was in the minority and was careful not to reveal her proclivity for routines. But now she was out of her comfort zone and unprepared for what would happen next.

It was dark, her phone was dead and the space felt huge around her.

Her whispered fears resounded in the space and came back to her own ears.

Her greatest fears had come to pass:

Darkness and the feeling of being out of control.

Normally Sheila had a small torch in times of emergency but her bag was gone who knew where and along with it her preparedness. Her readiness to meet any crisis head on!

Her eyes accustomed to the darkness and shapes appeared. They moved towards her and she backed away until she met a hard concrete surface. The shapes kept coming until Sheila became absorbed into the darkness.
