August 2026: 'Serendipity'

At this month's meeting, we did an 'Egri Character Chain' game to warm up, inspired by Lajos Egri's The Art of Dramatic Writing (1942). Egri argued that character creates action.

We've been...innovative...with the categories. Everyone started with a blank character list and filled in one category ('Name and defining trait' in the first instance), then passed it to the left. The next person filled in the next category, and so on, until we ended up with some very curious characters!

At the October meeting, we'll each pick one completed character from here and develop a story from it. It's going to be wild.
