Ricci Schwarzler - Serendipitous

The park car park was free, I couldn't believe it. I wasn't going to be late. Yay!

The day was bleak. I was in a bleak part of town and my mission was bleak. God, I hate this part of my job. But at least I didn't have to spend all day parking the car.

The overcast autumnal sky brightened my day. The clouds were charcoal grey but smooth. So smooth. They looked like grey silk flowing over rocks. But the ominous clouds settled in my soul, my heart sank. The bright greens and oranges disappeared from my eyes, as they were clouded by the mission I was on.

The car park was free, big whoop! I was so excited about the car park I'd forgotten the mission.

I walked into the building, greeted the receptionist and was asked to wait. My ominous bleak mission was to tell the woman I was to meet, that her boss was dead. Her boss of 35 years had been involved in a horrific car accident. According to people I had talked to who knew her and were at the scene, she would be devastated. He had been such an amazing man. Everyone loved him. Funny, always pranking people, kind, caring with only his business in his life. A man's man according to some. What does that even mean, I pondered?

I walked into her office and delivered the bad news. I stared out the window behind her and not only did the sun break through those clouds but her eyes lit up. She was glowing! A huge smile travelled up her face to her eyes. She twinkled. Hang on, I thought to myself, what's going on here?

“Well that is serendipitous,” she exclaimed, almost with glee.

“He was an utter cock!” Said his 70-year-old manager. She kept beaming.

“He just wrote his new will, leaving me everything! How serendipitous!”
