‘They are back again,’ She felt her eyes rolling as she said it, and knew her voice was exasperated and tired.

‘They’ were the neighbour’s delinquent teenage children, who had only just returned from terrorising their grandparents. It was surmised by many that they were under instructions from their parent who felt sure that dear old Mum and Dad had overstayed their welcome on this planet… And it was about time to divvy out the inheritance.

But unbeknown to everyone the grandparents were highly skilled in observation and non-judgemental consciousness.

They had been through it all – a full life of migrations, scandal, work, work and more work, raising a family of 12, with three who didn’t survive birthing and four who died before 5 years old, so cremated, unnamed – as the ceremony hadn’t occurred.

The kids sat before the solicitor waiting for their piece of the ‘pie’. They knew there was plenty of money and they deserved all of it. Each looked at the other, knowing who the favourite was. That bloody dog. It would get it all!

The solicitor cleared her throat. ‘Thank you all for your attendance…’ She was cut off by a clap of thunder that ripped through the atmosphere. Rainbows appeared in tendrils, curling from the corners of the room and onto the table. The sounds of expertly plucked lute strings ran up the legs of the chairs, invading the consciousness with aggressive sweetness. Apollo materialised at the head of the table, with an irritated expression.

‘I have a plan, dammit. I will not have it foiled!’

‘Well so do I.’ Tracy, five years of, thumped her fist on the table in elemental fury.

‘Calm down everyone,’ the solicitor said. ‘I will not proceed further until there is silence and no lightening in my chambers.’
