Kevan Smith - Soul

He looked deeply into her eyes and saw nothing.  No glimmer of intelligence nor spark of hope.  Just dull black unblinking staring back.  Not shuffling nor shifting, just deep wells of jet.  Unmoving.

Her tail was still, limp, non-engaged.  She didn’t shuffle nor move; just a large pure-black wall of muscle, legs locked.

“It’s OK girl.  You are safe.  It’s OK, don’t be afraid” as a long low guttural menace welled through slobbering, parted lips.  Not showing teeth but oozing intimidation.

He didn’t raise his hand; kept still; kept her gaze; held it; then blinked, blinked twice and started to purr, a cajoling murmur.  Soft, deep, caring; as he held her gaze.  Both faced each other; not moving; just her low growl and his soft purr.

Then he made a soft kissing noise; a gentle puffing of his lips.  His eyes flicked then sparkled.  He was only inches from her black eyes and potential throat-ripping teeth.  The kissy sounds increased and softened the charged air.

Then he saw it!  The flick; the tiny spark; the bursting glow as her soul welled up and darted from her eyes into his.  She blinked once; then twice; softened around the lids as they sparkled then exploded with emotion from his kissy noises.  Her tail flicked then swung wildly.  Her black bum began gyrating by her rod-like cable almost making her dance.  Joy flowed through her upper shoulders and forced her mouth and large red tongue to gape and slobber.  She danced, pranced; almost giggled with body joy.  He held her ears and kissed her between the eyes; eyes full of joy and love.
