The crows were sitting in their usual tree. Ah Ahhhing as usual. It was a usual day.

There were normally three crows but today there were only two. I wonder what they are thinking, I thought to myself, as I sipped my cup of Earl Grey, sans milk, sans sugar. I am a purist after all.

I wonder if birds can be purists? I mean will some of them only ever eat a particular type of seed they won't add other seeds to it…or milk or sugar I suspect.

They seem to be chatting to each other. Ah Ahhhing away. I thought I'd join in.

‘Ah Ahhh’ I said.

They stopped, looked at each other and continued. I did it again.

‘Ah Ahhh’.

This time they looked around and like the surgery team from The Muppets, they couldn't work out where it was coming from, so I did it again.

‘Ah Ahhh’.

The bigger crow said, ‘Where the hell is that coming from?’

The smaller crow replied, ‘I don't bloody know. but it's a strange accent that I can't quite understand.’

Big crow – ‘Is it Bob? You know he speaks a bit weird.’

‘Yeah, especially when he's had milk and sugar on that seed.’

‘Yeah, that's right. It sends him quite off.’

‘Yeah, but I don't think it's him. It's a bit early, even for him, to be on the milk and sugar!’

‘Ah Ahhh’, they looked around.

‘I don't get it. It should be coming from the trees.’

‘If Cath were here, she'd know. Where is she anyway?’

‘Well you know, she just doesn't always turn up.’

‘Yeah why is that?’

‘I have no idea.’

‘She must have other things on. Yeah like washing her feathers.’

‘Well, they're always very shiny.’

‘Yeah, she does look after herself.’

‘And she's such a sweetie.’

‘Yeah, I just wish she'd turn up more often.’

‘Yeah she is Da Daaaayvvvving.’

‘Yeah, I know what you mean, and that is such a good Crow word to describe a sweet person who just doesn't show up enough and you really miss them.’
