The party was in full swing. Mark was dancing on the table as expected, Jo was sick in the corner, Cath was running around checking everyone was ok, John was lying on his back not giving a damn. Nothing different to usual. John was Cath’s husband and he was a lazy, controlling man. He called out to her to clean up after her friend Jo, then get him a beer. Cath did as she was bid.
Others were there but they were sycophants. Sucking up to John because he was a minor TV celebrity in a very small country town, but at these parties he was showered in attention. Even if he wasn’t, he demanded it. He would walk around showing everyone a photo of himself with some other minor TV celebrity, until they all stopped what they were doing to lavish the honey on him. Sweet and sickly.
John demanded Cath get everyone a coffee and brew it properly. She obliged. Then he demanded she give them cake. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any left. He yelled, swore, and demeaned. She cowered.
Finally, everyone started to leave, either because they were tired or because they were tired of pouring on the honey.
John was admiring his photos on his phone. He was too full of drink and self-importance, brought on by an overabundance of honey to notice what was about to happen around him.
Mark fell off the table and hit his head on the corner of the hardwood coffee table. Jo and Cath looked at him. He was dead.
They grabbed one of John’s very important, minor TV trophies and bashed Mark over the head with it. They cleaned up the table and moved it around. The trophy was now lying next to Mark’s head.
They ran out of the house and called the police. Within minutes the police came. They were scared, John was a madman, out of control, and abusing Mark. They were worried. The police storm the house. John is arrested and charged with murder. He goes to jail for 20years. He’s 60. Cath will never have to put up with that loser again.
Job well done.
