Ms Johns stood in front of her senior school English class. They were good kids in general. Keen and enthusiastic.

‘Predator from the Latin Praedari, Praedat, Praedator. Meaning Plunder, Seized by Plunder, Plunderer. Yes Liam?’

‘So Miss does our concept of a predator come from someone being a plunderer, therefore they take from others by force?’

‘Yes Liam that is a very observant. They look for someone they can take from first don’t they?’

‘Ok sure, they try to find someone or something, with something they want, then they watch, learn and pounce for the kill…or they might not ‘kill’ but they do what they need, to get what they want.’

‘Yes exactly Liam.’

‘Ms!’

‘Yes Jen?’

‘So it could be animals, insects, humans, aliens or anything?’

‘Well yes I suppose so.’

‘So it could be Aliens taking our planet?’

‘Yes’

‘Miss!’

‘Yes Aden’

‘Well Miss I remember when I was young, we had a teacher who told us all about animals preying on other animals that only ate grass and I had nightmares for weeks, it was sooo sad and I feel like crying now. Mum had to take me to a psychologist.’

‘Ok so that’s very sad Aden and I’m sure she was very sorry about that. Let’s move on… to Midsummer’s Night Dream.’
