‘You’re a bright spark’ he said nastily.
‘Am I?’ I said proudly
‘Dont be smart with me Missy!’
‘But my name is Jodie, not Missy and I can’t help being smart.’
‘I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU! How dare you question me and come up with ideas in front of the other people in the meeting.’
‘But actually, you asked if anyone had any other ideas…and I did.’
‘THAT WASN’T A QUESTION FOR PEOPLE TO ANSWER’
‘Oh so it was rhetorical.’
‘NO you idiot, it was just a question you ask but you don’t need anyone to answer! My God you’re stupid.’
I continued to encourage him, which seemed so easy. I just had to have rational responses, and he exploded more and more.
We must have stood there for 5 minutes. Other people in the office were staring and smiling. He saw them smiling with him and he became more and more smug, nasty and misogynistic.
‘You think you’re sooo smart, with your big university words.’
‘Um I didn’t go to Uni.’
‘Well you think you're smart and you should leave all the clever stuff to me.’
‘Actually, I know I’m pretty smart and I also know you’re a misogynist.’
‘WHAT? I’m not a misogynist and what’s that got to do with the price of eggs. I’ve only been married once.’
With that the office roared into laughter. He realised they were laughing at him and he also realised why they were smiling.
The CEO put his hand on his shoulder and asked him to go into his office. He was behind him the entire time. Five minutes later he was walked from the building screaming…
’I’ve only been married ONCE Missy, so I’m not a misogynist!’
